Initially, trades in real time was conducted informally. "You could purchase some gold from a friend at college," Jacob Reed, a popular creator of YouTube videos on RuneScape who goes by OSRS gold wrote through an email that I received. Later, demand for gold outpaced supply, and some players became full-time gold farmers or people who create the currency in game to trade for real-world money.

Internet-age miners had always accompanied enormously multiplayer online games or MMOs which include Ultima Online or World of Warcraft. They even worked the virtual worlds of text, stated Julian Dibbell, now a lawyer for technology transactions who was a writer on virtual economies in his journalistic work.

In the past, many of these gold farmers were primarily located in China. Many hid in small factories, where they slaughtered virtual ogres, and stole their corpses in 12-hour shifts. There were accounts of Chinese government using prisoners to build gold farms.

In cheap OSRS GP the black market economy of gold farmers was small--until 2013. Many players were not happy with the extent to which the game had changed since it was first launched in 2001. They asked Jagex to restore an earlier version. Jagex published a version from their archive, and fans flocked back to what came to be known as Old School RuneScape.
