Your characters are going to be in a similar position. Levels, abilities and some other character progression will not move over to New Genesis. New Genesis can improve on other aspects of PSO2, too. Following a big update that trimmed down the dull objectives of story quests, what is left is a string of incoherent cutscenes using the strange boss struggle scattered in between. I have tried multiple times to get through the story, but all of it feels pointless. New Genesis, however, has its campaign set in the future, so I'm hoping Sega takes some of the lessons and assembles a new story that's really worth playing and won't have to be trimmed down in a few decades.

It is weird half-measures such as this that make PSO2 an MMO with a great deal of bags. For fans like me, it's simple to reconcile these annoyances since the thrill of fighting elaborate bosses and grinding for that next big upgrade are really enjoyable. However, I have difficulty recommending a game that needs players to observe hours of movies simply to understand some of its basics. New Genesis, though, feels like a clean slate. Taking what already works about PSO2 and modernizing it seems to buy PSO2 Meseta be an easy triumph. Hopefully that is what Sega is actually planning rather than the usual surface-level upgrade with fancy images. Big new surroundings and higher-detailed personalities are nice and all, but it'll mean nothing if New Genesis does not repair the core issues keeping PSO2 from being good.
