WoW will not be able to provide the plug

Hazzikostas stated that controller support for controllers in WoW will be provided in the form of giving players access to the application programming interface (API) that WoTLK Gold will allow for controller setup. The game won't allow you to simply connect an Xbox or PlayStation controller and play WoW, but this API access will enable people who use Microsoft's Xbox Adaptive Controller and others for playing the game on a manner which is appropriate to their needs.

The new controller support will give people who suffer from physical disabilities or limitations the ability to play WoW without having too excessive headaches, Hazzikostas said.

"It's more about more direct API access that is targeted primarily at members of the accessibility group. There are lots of people without the facilities to use mice and keyboards or traditional control tools , and have been using a lot of complicated methods to access devices such as Microsoft's powerful controller for interacting with the game world" said the Microsoft CEO. "We would like to get rid of the need to leap through all the hurdles. We also wanted to more directly support the API. We're excited to see what this community generally can come up with."

WoW will not be able to provide the plug-and-play configuration of existing console controllers in the near future. Given the complicated nature of WoW's controls WoTLK Gold -- you be able to use more than a dozen capabilities, for instance--traditional controller support isn't an easy task.
