Electric guitar is a technological advancement of folk guitar

For those of us who are old enough, the age at which we have these acoustic instruments is easy to remember. That was before the advent of electronic equipment. By the way, when we talk about acoustics, we are really talking about "electric box guitars" that only use acoustic mechanisms to project the sound produced. In other words, these guitars cannot be connected directly to the amplifier and then to the speaker, just like an electric guitar. That's right, you can place a microphone next to the guitar, and then pass the sound from there to the amplifier, and then from there to the speaker, but you can't connect directly like an electric guitar. When using an electric guitar in a public performance, the connection to the amplifier (and speakers) is so direct that you can actually not hear the sound from the instrument, but only from the (remote) speakers, standing next to the guitar player. Of course, for folk guitars, the sound comes directly from the guitar, if necessary, it is tapped through the microphone and directed to the amplifier and speaker.
